National Wildlife Refuge Camping – Official Rules Published

I managed to publish the set of rules and regulations for boondocking in National Wildlife Refuges. I also put together a page on which refuges offer free camping.

Of all the government agencies that manage federal lands, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service is probably the least talked about. Part of that is because they offer only a handful of refuges with free RV camping.

But another reason is because refuges comprise much smaller tracts of land, not at all like the BLM or USFS, which encompass millions of square miles of open areas

My goal this year is to camp at a couple of refuges, just to see what they’re like, and pick up some literature at some refuge headquarters.

  1. At Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge we have an updated map. It’s $5.00 as it’s done by the Friends of the BANWR and the money goes toward projects for which money is unavailable.
