Free Camping Near Las Cruces, NM

This is a large, desert flat set aside by the Bureau of Land Management specifically for OHV use. Most of the camping is set up at a staging area close to the County Road. There is an old shade structure there with an information kiosk. You can also camp in other areas, but you'll be subject to OHV riders speeding by your camp.

Camping at Aden Hills OHV Area

Much of the camping here is used by OHV riders, but is still open for full time RVers, tent campers, and other recreation seekers. This is area is also the site of “Corralitos 100” an annual dirt bike event.

The best time to camp here is during the week from Monday to Thursday. You’ll generally find very few OHV riders during this period. The area is large enough that there’s plenty of room if you’re looking for a free place to camp while visiting Las Cruces.

In our experience, you’re better off camping close to the lone shade structure here, only because the ground is firm and doesn’t require 4WD. Anywhere else, and you might find yourself getting stuck. There are no trash cans or vault toilets here.
