Free Camping at Gila Lower Box Canyon

This is a popular fishing area along the Gila River going back several decades. Today, it's mostly a place to camp and photograph flowers and wildlife, though fishing is still permitted here with a license. There are no amenities, no trash cans, no nothing. There are a few places you can set up camp here.

Fisherman’s Point Camping

Known for its rocky cliffs, Fisherman’s Point offers a few good places for camping. You’ll need a 4WD vehicle to get here because there are soft places along the road, and especially so if there’s rain.

At the end of Fisherman’s Point road is a turnaround on the top of a hill that offers spectacular views of the area. You can camp here because hardly anyone comes here.

Camping at Fisherman’s Point offers lots of quiet and views of wildlife and flora. You can enjoy the sounds of water trickling along the Gila River. There’s plenty of hiking along the riverbank.
