Red Bluff Dam and Reservoir is located on the Pecos River in Loving and Reeves counties. Red Bluff Reservoir is 50 miles from Pecos, Texas, and 40 miles from Carlsbad, New Mexico. Red Bluff Reservoir is privately owned and operated by the Red Bluff Water Power Control District. The district operates a park and campground at the southern tip of the reservoir next to the dam. Free camping with no reservations.

Free camping is available without reservations at the southern point of Red Bluff Reservoir, just minutes away from the tiny town of Orla, Texas. There are five designated campsites with picnic tables. Campfires are allowed.

Are Permits Required? A permit is NOT required for camping, despite the signage at the park entrance stating that a “Recreational Permit” is required. This was verified by email with the district office.

Length of Stay: There is a three day maximum for camping, according to district office.

Red Bluff Dam Park is a popular destination for swimming, boating, and fishing.
