Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds in Connecticut is limited to just the one campground at West Thompson Lake in North Grosvenordale. Army Corps of Engineers Camping in Connecticut

The ACOE operates eight (8) dams and reservoirs in Connecticut. Only West Thompson Lake has its own campground. Black Rock Lake, however, does have a campground nearby, but is operated by Black Rock State Park.

Here is a run down of all Army Corps of Engineers projects in Connecticut…

Black Rock Lake, Thomaston, CT – (Google Maps Link) – is located entirely within Black Rock State Park. There is a campground nearby operated by Black Rock State Park. Otherwise, the ACOE does not operate any camping facilities of its own, and does not support dispersed camping anywhere around the lake.

Colebrook River Lake, Colebrook, CT – (Google Maps Link) – offers no camping anywhere around the lake. There is a boat ramp with parking lot owned and operated by the ACOE, but closes after sundown.

Hancock Brook Lake, Plymouth, CT – (Google Maps Link) – offers no camping anywhere around the lake, and no boat ramp. Very limited day-use activities.

Hop Brook Lake, Plymouth, CT – (Google Maps Links) – offers no camping anywhere around the lake, and no boat ramp. Day use activities only.

Mansfield Hollow Lake, Mansfield, CT – (Google Maps Link) – offers no camping anywhere around the lake. The lake has a boat ramp with a large parking lot, but it’s not known if anyone has been able to park overnight without incident. The lake is also located within Mansfield Hollow State Park, yet the park offers no camping either.

Northfield Brook Lake, Thomaston, CT – (Google Maps Link) – offers no camping anywhere around the lake, and no boat ramp. Day use activities only.

Thomaston Dam, Thomaston, CT – (Google Maps Link) – offers no camping anywhere around the dam. Very limited day use activities only.

West Thompson Lake, North Grosvenordale, CT – (Google Maps Link) – offers its own campground and boat ramp. Camping is fee-based and requires reservation. No boondocking available.

Of all the eight (8) dams and lakes operated by the Army Corps of Engineers listed above, none offer any boondocking or dispersed camping opportunities. The only thing worth mentioning is the boat ramp at Mansfield Hollow Lake, however it’s not known if anyone has been able to sleep in their vehicle there overnight without incident.
