Free Camping Near Grand Canyon National Park

The first mile of Forest Road 305 has dozens of previously-used dispersed campsites, as well as dozens more along spur roads leading off from it. The road itself is firm packed dirt suitable for any vehicle or RV, but don't stray too far off road as the dirt gets soft.

Camping at Forest Road 305

Also known as “Old Grand Canyon Airport Road”, Forest Road 305 begins at Highway 64 and heads southeast for about 15 miles. Dispersed camping is allowed anywhere along this stretch as long as you stray no further than 30 feet from the side of the road.

Camping along Forest Road 305, from within a mile from Highway 64, still places you about 16 miles (24 minutes) from the South Rim Viewing Area at Grand Canyon Village.

This road also wraps around Red Butte, another popular destination in the forest for hikers and campers. While Forest Road 305 is much further away from the Grand Canyon than other dispersed camping areas, it still offers more options during the crowded summers and weekends.

Bring plenty of bug repellent, you will encounter lots of pesky flying insects here.
