Free Camping at Padre Island

North Beach is one of four dispersed camping areas in Padre Island National Seashore. A permit is required to camp here, but the permit is free and can be obtained at the information kiosk on site. In addition, there is a park entrance fee that must be paid at the gate. You can buy a 1-day, 7-day, or year pass. An Interagency Pass works here too.

North Beach Camping

North Beach is by far the least crowded of the four dispersed camping areas at Padre Island National Seashore. There are fewer amenities, however, just trash cans.

The sand is generally firmly packed and suitable for heavy RVs. However, don’t park too close to the sand dunes because the sand is very soft. Moreover, be alert for high tides because they will come and you’ll find yourself in water fairly quickly. Keep your trailer hitched up, and be prepared to leave in a hurry.

In our experience, North Beach is a great place to camp if you want to experience Padre Island. There’s plenty of room for large RVs to turn around, and plenty of space to get away from other campers.
