Free Camping at Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument

This is a small campground intended for tent camping only. It has a paved parking lot where cars, vans, and pickup trucks can park, and you are allowed to camp inside your vehicle. The parking lot is not large enough for RVs, though it's common to see motohomes and trailers camping here.

Camping at Lower Scorpion Campground

Located just 0.4 miles from the visitor center of Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, this campground, along with Upper Scorpion Campground, are the only two “official” campgrounds serving the monument. There are seven campsites this lower campground, though there is room to set up additional tents further back into the tree cover.

While vehicle-camping is not intended for this campground, it’s not prohibited either. It’s still common to find small motorhomes and trailers set up in the parking lot. The parking lot is not big enough for full-sized RVs because it’ll consume what few parking spaces are available for others.

If can’t find space at this campground, nor at Upper Scorpion Campground, then try Forks Campground or Grapevine Campground, both of which are 5.3 miles and 5.5 miles south, respectively.
